The summer school is designed for young people who are passionate about the performing arts
including dance, drama, music and singing. This is our 16th annual Summer School and young
people come back to us year after year to learn new skills, make new friends and have a fantastic
experience.

During the week long course you will be involved in all aspects of creating a production culminating in a show of epic proportions. You will work with professional actors, directors, musicians and choreographers from Round Midnight Ltd and all for a parent friendly price of £75.00 per performer per week.

Rehearsals and performances for both weeks take place at Clifton Road Youth Centre (next to
Wyndley Leisure Centre).

Toppers toy shop is the best in town. Dom Topper is proud of his toys and makes them all by hand, they are brilliant! All the children agree, the world is
a better place thanks to Toppers!

But N.A.F Toys Ltd, an international, multi million pound company, owned by the cold-hearted
Nigel Arlington-Farley is taking over! It seems that Toppers Toy shop has suspiciously had a run of faulty toys, a water pistol that’s flooded a village, a toy car that’s been involved in a hit and run and worst of all a brand new My Little Poopy Doll has exploded and taken out an entire block of flats!

Has Mr Topper been making dodgy toys or is N.A.F trying to sabotage his business? Unless he
can prove his innocence by the end of the week, Toppers is going to get closed down and bulldozed with all the toys inside!

Will the children be able to save their beloved toyshop from the clutches of N.A.F Toys? Will Mr
Topper be able to stop his toys causing havoc? And who are the mysterious helpers that work only when the shop is closed???

You’ll have to act, sing and dance as if the future of Toppers toy shop depends on it...because it does!!

THE ONLY WAY IS DANGLEBERRY
Dangleberry is THE most boring place on earth. For the kids that live there life is dull. No fun, no excitement, nothing to do..... until wannabe celeb local girl Demi, gets some news.
The town is to be the next big thing in reality tv programmes and will appear in ‘The Only way
is Dangleberry!’ The cameras want sleaze, fun, arguments, sleaze, parties, asbo families and sleaze – all Dangleberry can offer is a church hall, knitting
clubs and a visiting library bus!

With the TV cameras on their way it’s up to Demi and her mates to convince local residents to ‘get a life’ and make Dangleberry look interesting. Will Ray from the garage pretend to be a Lady Ga Ga tribute act? Will old Mrs Timkins put down her knitting and take up streedance? Will the posh Parker-Farquar family don tracksuits, get tagged and start brawling in the streets? - and what is the real reason Demi has got the TV cameras to Dangleberry???

You’ll have to act, sing and dance as if the future of Dangleberry depends on it...because it does!!

Crimefactor Webisodes

Raw Talent are currently working with all three of its groups on the 'Crimefactor Webisodes'. The four short films look at youth related violent crime and will be on our website and Facebook group as well as West Midlands Police Authority and Safer Birmingham Partnerships websites.

The plan is to make the webisodes entertaining and educational, something that young people will want to download and then pass around thier friends via social networks or mobile phones.

Where we're at...

This term at Raw Talent has been a busy one for us all. We've now started our new Raw Talent at Clifton Road in Sutton Coldfield and it's going swimmingly! With numbers growing, Clifton Road has officially been made a new home for us.
Over in Erdington things are going equally excellent. Rehearsals for our new shows"Boy, is that a girl?" and "Monster, monster, monster!" are in full swing and it looks like they are going to be fantastic performances.
Rehearsals have not been dedicated just to the upcoming shows, the groups have also worked hard towards a talent show at Sutton town hall. The piece was very well received and we want to say a big well done to all of those involved.

Round Midnight Drama Summer School 2010

Round Midnight Drama Summer Schools are designed for young people who are passionate about the performing arts, dance, drama, music and singing. They will be part of a professional theatrical company, working to a rigorous schedule in order to achieve a production of the highest artistic standard.

During the week long course the young people will be involved in all aspects of creating a production, culminating in a final show of epic proportions. The young performers will work with professional actors, directors, musicians and choreographers from Round Midnight Ltd.

No other summer school gives its members so much access to industry professionals who are able to offer insights of the best way into the performing arts.

Week 1 7-11 YEAR OLDS
2 - 6 August 2010

The sleepy village of Merrywood is awoken one early summer morning to the “Yarrgghh” of the rowdy pirates, who have dropped anchor in the village
pond!

The villagers are most distressed because in a weeks time the judges from the “Britain Is Smashing” competition will be arriving in Merrywood.

Can Merrywood retain its title of the loveliest village in England? Only if the villagers can persuade the pirates to swap marauding for flower arranging,
looting for cake decoration and splicin’ the mainbrace for cricket on the village green. Will Captain Gingerbeard ruin Merrywood's chances in the
competition or can the pirates teach the villagers a thing or two about enjoying themselves?

You'll have to act sing and 'yarrgghh' as if your life depends on it!!

Week 2 11-16 YEAR OLDS
9 - 13 August 2010

Anna Bandana is a child superstar who has everything that a young girl could dream of. Fans, bodyguards and a crazy stalker who collects her breath in Evian bottles. Anna Bandana is the most famous face on the planet but she is getting sick of it so Anna goes absent without leave (AWOL). Taking matters into her own hands Anna disguises herself as a young girl named Molly Nobody. She gives her celebrity world the slip and goes to stay with her pen pal Maud in a little town called Dullsville. Looking to get away from her extreme lifestyle, Anna soon finds out, that the only things that are extreme in Dullsville are the rules handed out by evil slimeball Pat Testing and his Safety Squad. Will the people of Dullsville uncover the truth about the new arrival to their town? Will the police be able to track Anna down? And will we find out what the deal is with rubber gloves in Dullsville? You'll have to act sing and dance as if your life depends on it...because it does.

Claire Downes – Producer Claire is a young persons acting coach and has worked for The BBC, Walt Disney Television and Ealing Films. Claire also works closely with casting agents and directors and helps find young actors for feature films and television. Claire has appeared in the films Anita and Me and Nanny McPhee. Claire has produced Round Midnight Summer Schools since 1995.
Emmi Isham - Director Emmi is an actor, arts practitioner and director and has been working with Round Midnight for over 10 years. She studied at Lancaster University.
Philip Hyde – Co-Director Phil took part in the first Summer Schools that Round Midnight produced 15 years ago. Since finishing University Phil has worked with Round Midnight and its youth theatre – Raw Talent.
Josh Tonks – Choreographer Josh is a gifted young dancer who has choreographed Round Midnight Theatre Summer Schools for a number of years.

Looking for young entrepreneurs in the West Midlands

Round Midnight and The Princes Trust visited schools throughout the West Midlands to reach out to the next generation of young entrepreneursr.

Princes Trust staff toured schools with the Round Midnight Ltd, who have performed the play ‘I want to be’ for Year 10 and 11 students.

The play tells the story of a fictitious character, Kyle, who leaves school with few qualifications and even less confidence. He wants to be a personal fitness instructor but instead ends up working in a chicken factory with little prospects.

Kyle gets his life back on track when he returns to college and his learning advisor suggests he gets in touch with The Prince's Trust to find out about the Business Programme. He applies for the programme and is given a low interest loan and three years of business mentoring and support. His learning advisor becomes one of his first clients and his business grows so that he starts taking on staff.

“We come across people like Kyle every day,” says Marlena Atkinson from The Prince's Trust. The Trust helps thousands of young people each year who realise their dream of owning their own business. “We believe that all young people have the potential to succeed given the right kind of support and encouragement.”

The Prince's Trust and the Government Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) is working together to encourage disadvantaged young people into business. “We felt that to give maximum reach, something radically different should be tried,” says Marlena. “Round Midnight delivered an amusing and engaging piece of theatre and they held workshops where young people would come up with business ideas and consider how they might be realised.”

Kathy Williams, The Prince's Trust West Midlands regional director said: “Research suggests that social exclusion has a significant impact on the region’s economy. The Prince's Trust is working hard to narrow the gap. The next generation of enterprising talent can be found and nurtured in some of the most unexpected places.”

David Watts
2008 (10 Mins)

David Watts tells the story of Nick, a teenager with low self confidence and few friends or so he thinks. When Nick volunteers to be nominated for head boy even the teacher laughs him out of classroom and Nick meets David Watts, Nicks be-suited smooth talking better looking alter ego. After a few pointers from David, Nicks life begins to get a whole lot better and his ego gets a awful lot bigger, he dumps Grace, his one true friend and starts dating Rosanne, the hottest girl in school. Will Nick realize the error of his ways before its too late, or will David Watts take over.

David Watts was created in a week in October 2007 by 20 dedicated young film-makers. The group, many of whom are members of Raw Talent, devised the story and filmed some of the sequences. Round Midnight are very proud of the final film and are planning to take the film to film festivals and competitions. We think its a great example of what creative young people are capable of.

(DO YOU KNOW)HOW TO PARTY is a pop video made for a half term project. The music was written by Stuart Lane and Stephen Bloomfield with lyrics by the group. The video was directed and edited by Andy Packwood. The song and video were recorded and filmed during February half term at Arthur Terry School.

Congratulations to everyone who took part, we're really pleased with the results.

Well here we have it, the very post on Raw Talents very own big bad blog. For those of you who dont know, Troy 24 is a new piece by writer David Calcutt and Raw Talent are the first company to ever perform it. The photos are from rehearsals for the show which was performed at Hillcrest School and Community College in Netherton on Saturday 24th February 2007.

The production was directed by Ian Jarvis and he was ably assisted by Stuart Lane and Phil 'The Grufalo' Hyde.
